Sofia Larriera Santurio is a guest researcher at the Kalshoven-Gieskes Forum and a former IHL Clinic student. She has been working as junior supervisor, assisting the Clinic’s team in a Strategic Litigation project. Before joining the KGF, Sofia graduated (cum laude) from the advanced LL.M. in public international law at Leiden University, with specialisation in international criminal law, and later interned at the UN International Residual Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals in the Hague.

Prior to coming to the Netherlands, Sofia concluded her bachelor’s in law in Brazil and specialised in criminal law, working for many years in the domestic field. Parallel to the work at law firms, Sofia co-founded a feminist civil society organisation aiming to fight gender inequality and gender-based violence through law and the judiciary. One of the main activities carried out during her time with the group was the pro bono legal assistance to victims of gender-based violence.

Besides the KGF, Sofia also works as a Legal Researcher and Consultant for an NGO based in East Timor, supporting their mission to advance human rights in the country through legal research, advocacy and strategic litigation. Her main interests include international criminal justice, criminology, human rights and gender issues.
