Research & Teaching Associate

Nicholas E. Ortiz is an Ecuadorian-American Jurist and Legal Advisor in Public International Law. He currently holds the position of Research and Teaching Associate at the Kalshoven-Gieskes Forum for International Humanitarian Law (KGF), Leiden University. Hepursued his Bachelor of Laws in European Law School at Maastricht University (LL.B.) and obtained his Master of Laws in Public International law from Leiden University (LL.M.).

Nicholas was formerly a Guest Researcher and Project Coordinator at the KGF, and a Reporter for the International Criminal Law Module of Oxford Reports on International Law. He has also served as an Assistant to the Head of Office of the ADC-ICT, a Legal Intern for the Consulate of Ecuador in the Netherlands, and as a Research Assistant for Dr Emma Irving of Leiden University. He also co-founded a social enterprise and ran its legal affairs for a period.

His focus is primarily international criminal law, but also international humanitarian law and diplomatic law. His research area is innovation in international criminal justice, particularly the use of digital evidence in investigating and prosecuting international crimes.
